World Eye Organization is a registered charitable organization and is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of eye diseases, especially among the poor, through education, training, research and the establishment of ophthalmic centers, initially in China and subsequently in other parts of the world. Since its inception on December 18, 1999, WEO has focused on the following projects:

Eye-care for the Poor: Established a collaborative relationship with the Chinese Association of Ophthalmology and built the WEO Xian Eye Center to restore vision to the poor and sight-impaired in China's Great West and train ophthalmic professionals; WEO Centers in other regions of China will be built based on the Xian model;

2. Organized regular "WEO Tour of Vision" to provide eye-care in poor rural regions using WEO's ophthalmic van and medical staff in Xian; WEO intends to expand this program nationally and establish the "Light Truck" program;

3. Maintained the “WEO Bliss of Vision” program, a series of art and culture events (such as exhibitions and lectures) and publications (such as “How much do you know about your eye” information pamphlets) aimed at enhancing the public's awareness on the importance of good eye-sight and eye-care, and also at increasing public support to WEO;

4. Started a new medical journal in 2005 entitled " Ophthalmology in the West" to report the results of eye research in China.
